An Exhortation To Faith

In this passage, we have a word of exhortation not just to Thomas but to us. It is a calling to be a true believer. Do not be faithless but believing. Christ wants us to be characterized as a believer.

1. The substance of believing

• a calling to believe in Christ's person (Jesus is the Christ)
• a calling to believe in Christ's work (His death for our sins)
• a calling to believe in Christ's word (the truths recorded in Scripture)

2. The blessings of believing

• the blessing of worshiping with confidence (20:28)
• the blessing of life (20:31)
• the blessing of peace (20:19-21)
• the blessing of gladness (20:20)
• the blessing of serving Christ (20:21-23)
