Waiting on God - Part 2

19

I hate being put on 'HOLD' and yet I know that it is a necessary evil when calling a busy office. None of us like to wait and yet at times we must. What do we do while waiting on God? This sermons concludes a look at the apostles in the Upper Room as they waited for the promised Holy Spirit. What did they do while waiting. We saw before that while waiting, they obeyed the commands they already knew; sought out fellowship with other believers; and devoted themselves to prayer. But their activities didn't end there. For in the remainder of the text we discover that during their wait, they spent time studying God's Word, took care of unfinished business surrounding the death of Judas, and prepared for future ministry by replacing Judas with Matthias. We discover that the apostles held a high view of Scripture. Peter believed that what God said in His Word must come to pass and that the Scriptures were inspired by God. Peter also looked to the Scriptures to find a Biblical answer for the questions swirling around Judas. And then they replaced Judas with Matthias. Why did they replace Judas and not James when he was killed by Herod? And why did they choose Matthias and not Paul to be the twelfth apostle? God wants us to deal with the unfinished business in our lives so that the baggage of the past will not hinder future ministry.
