Now Shall We Pray

51

This is the heart of the book of Ephesians.

As Paul's prison epistle to the saints in Ephesus is divided into two parts, doctrine (ch.1-3) and duty (ch.4-6), expressing some of the deepest doctrinal truths found in the Bible, the truth conveyed in Paul's prayer here must be in the forefront of all that we study concerning this book.

If the reality of this prayer is ellusive, then the duties of chs.4-6 will be feeble and lame at best, and altogether hypocrisy at worst.

There are six petitions in Paul's prayer for his Ephesian brethren; and a seventh implied petition in vv20-21.

Prayer Petitions:

  1. Inneer man strengthened with might by His Spirit
  2. Christ dwell in ou hearts by faith
  3. Being rooted and grounded in love
  4. Comprehend with all saints the breadth, length, depth, height
  5. Know the love of Christ, realizing by Holy Spirit revelation of the reality of that love that transcends the rapid recall of information
  6. All the fullness of Christ for this time and circumstances
