We concluded last time on a note of hope. Egypt and Assyria will gather together to worship God with Israel. Tonight, however, we get a darker picture.

Isaiah does not have a progressive view of history. There is no steady march of progress in Isaiah's view. While Isaiah has a very rosy picture of where things are going – he also has a very realistic picture of how bad things are – and how they are likely going to remain this way for a while yet...
