A Building Fit For a King

311

So often we look on the outward and base our hopes and expectations on what can be seen. Such was the mistake made by the Jews, who felt that the Second Temple was not as glorious as the first. Some were disappointed, and believed that the Second Temple did not have the outward grandeur of the first. We must not make the same mistake. Truly, where God is pleased to dwell, be content and expect Him to work.

The prophecy of Haggai is more about a person than a building - Jesus Christ, the One who would come; the Messiah. In saying 'the glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former,' Haggai looks forward to when Christ will dwell in another temple, the church.

The heart of the Gospel is not just about getting the building right, valuable and loved as our church buildings are. No, the uniqueness and glory of Christ is seen in His death on the cross. The glory of Christ is revealed to us as He bore God's judgement of sin, on the cross. The glory of God's love, mercy and compassion is revealed as the Perfect One died in the place of the sinner.

The glory of Christ will indeed dwell in the church, sinful people who have been saved by grace. What about you, are you one of those in whom Christ dwells?
