Parables in John's Gospel

In John’s gospel Jesus does not tell story-parables. Even so, there are instances of Jesus’ characteristic use of picture-language and parable-type images and likenesses. We have been saying all along that the one who speaks the parable—who he is and what he has come to do—is as significant as the parable itself. In John’s gospel, Jesus relates these figurative images directly to himself and his mission.
