Worship - Its Components Pt 10 [Praise cont'd]

30

Again we are returning to dwell upon Praise as an essential component of Biblical worship. Thus far we have considered:

I. The Origin of true praise. To truly praise God we must be in possession of the new song. Only then can we sing with grace in [y]our hearts to the Lord.

II. The Content of our praise. Our Praise must acknowledge the Old Testament reality and have an emphasis upon the holiness of God. It must also acknowledge New Testament reality that the work of Christ has now been accomplished.

III. The Tuition within true praise. Our praise is to have a teaching character to it. We are to admonish [4 times translated 'admonish', 4 times 'warn'] one another in the our praise. In order to do this our praise must be full of Scripture as Col 3:16 states: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another….

Today we come to:
IV. The Manifestation of our Praise. It is to be in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.

Is this an argument for exclusive psalmody? No it is not!
