The Message of the King: “Be Perfect” (Matt. 5:33-48)

“You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

There is a tendency in every generation to make excuses for sin.
No one is perfect…
Everyone makes mistakes…
It wasn’t my fault…
If you hadn’t done that first…
The woman you gave me…

But Jesus does not accept this way of doing things. “You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Sin is never “okay.” God never says that 70% is a passing grade. Perfect holiness – justice, mercy, humility – nothing less.

You might be tempted to say, “Well, in that case, I’ll never get in…”

Woah!
Get in?
Jesus never said anything about “getting in”...
