Courage in Chastening

Chastening is never pleasant. Discipline is disagreeable to the flesh and objected to by the mind. Whose heart finds sweetness in chastisement? Yet, it is essential to all of life. God oversees the spiritual discipline of His children. It calls to reality, confirms sonship, compels discipleship and comforts the heart. If the sanctifying righteousness of the Gospel is to be found, chastisement is necessary. Let us take courage in times of discipline.
