What the Atonement is Not

What isn't the Atonement? The theologians who met at the Synod of Dort were eemphatic about what the Atonement is and what Christ did on the cross, and that meant being clear about what it is not as well. The Atonement is not ineffectual, and the Atonement is not secondary; Christ's death accomplishes the salvation of his people, and it is absolutely central in God's saving purposes.
