Palm Sunday Reactions to Jesus

38

In John Chapter 12 we see the attitudes of a number of different people to Jesus.

In this passage we find that six days before the Passover Jesus is visiting Mary, Martha and Lazarus.

The Bible says that they made Jesus a supper.

Lazarus had been raised from the Dead and now he is seated with Christ at the Table.

There at the Table Lazarus who was a that was once dead, but whom now was a living witness of the resurrection power of Jesus Christ.
Whilst Jesus is at the Table Mary the sister of Lazarus anoints the feet of Jesus with expensive oil.

In John 12 verse 5 Judas tells us the potential sale price of this oil. It could have been sold for 300 Denarii. The price was worth about a years wages for a common labourer back then.

Mary was so thankful that her brother had been raised from the dead.

Mary was showing her devotion to Christ.
Mary was showing sacrificial love to Christ.

Mary takes the place of a servant, she humbles herself and washes the feet of her saviour.

Not only Mary’s Worship was costly but it was also criticised.

John 12: NKJV 5 "Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?"

The World wants to stop the testimony of the Godly.

Satan hated the Worship of Mary and Satan hated the Testimony of Lazarus.

As you go on in John Chapter 12 John speaks of the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

Numbers of Jews in Jesus’s day looked forward to a Golden Age where Israel would triumph over their enemies. They believed that God would help them do this by sending them a Messiah/ King that would lead them to victory.

Perhaps the crowd missed something that day.
