Presumption Of Salvation

When the Pharisees and Sadducees came to John the Baptist to be baptized, John proclaimed that their repentance was not sincere. This was because the fruit of their actions did not "weigh the same" as their claim of repentance. The Jewish leadership presumed that they had a right relationship with God because of their descent from Abraham. The worst kind of deception is when a person deceives themselves.
