The Good Shepherd (Jn 10)
Intro
Craig's testimony: "That was the first time I heard my Shepherd's voice."

  1. Good Shepherd vs thieves & robbers (v1-13)
"Jesus is right. It is not the Christian doctrine of heaven that is the myth, but the humanist dream of utopia" (Roy Clements in Carson, 385).

  2. Good Shepherd who gives his life for the sheep (v14-18)
"Death was not His fate. Death was His triumphal act. Never was He more victorious than on the cross" (John Murray).

Doctrine of limited atonement: But can't "anyone enter by me" (10:9)? Yes! But compare:

The Reformed Faith allows you to preach same gospel Jesus preached & hold these things together, even in the same breath: Jn 6:37.

Gal 2:20, Rev 5:9. Also Acts 18:9-10, 28:28.

  1. Good Shepherd whose sheep hear & follow Him (v19-30)
Stott: "He wasn't the shepherd; he was the butcher."

  2. Jesus again accused of blasphemy (v31-42)
    (a) It is NOT blasphemy for a man to be called "God" (Ps 82:6).
    (b) I am doing the very works of God before your eyes (Jn 10:37-38)

Conclusion
"I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands." "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine."
