The World

362

If we would not make the distinction that the word world can refer to the world of the Reprobate or to the world of the Elect, then we would arrive at a false doctrine. For example, when God says through the mouth of John the Baptist: "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world", is this not the world of the Elect only? Certainly, this verse does not mean that Christ would pay for the sins of everyone in the whole world. I have been careful to quote only those passages where the same Greek word for world has been used. It is the Greek word "Kosmos". When God says in II Cor 5:19, "God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them ……" certainly God is not referring to the whole world, but only the world of the Elect.
