Divine Justice Justified - 4
Series Heidelberg Catechism Season 09
By nature, man attempts to wiggle free of God's justice. The instructor in Lord's Day 4 of the Heidelberg Catechism preempts this sin, and shows that man is totally responsible for his total depravity. God is not unjust at all, since he created man capable. The fault isn't with God, but with man who willfully disobeyed God. "Sin is the daring of God's justice", John Bunyan once said. The wages of sin is death. Eternal death. Is there then no mercy, no escape? God does not compromise. Sin against an infinite and holy God, requires infinite punishment. Yet, God has provided an astonishing way to redeem sinners from this dreadful and extreme punishment. Christ, the spotless one, was made a curse for sinners. He bore the cup of God's wrath so that they might receive his infinite righteousness.
