Text: Psalm 115:1, Lord's Day 47

The first petition of the Lord's Prayer is exactly that, a petition; it is not a declaration of fact. In other words, when we pray "Hallowed be Thy Name," we are making a request of God, and we are not making a statement about God. Both our Catechism and God's Word help us to "hallow" the holy Name of God.

  1. Hallowing God's Name as described by our Catechism:
    a. Submission in our petitions.
    b. The heart of our petition.
    c. The life of our petition.

  2. Hallowing God's Name as described by Psalm 115:
    a. The foolishness of idols.
    b. Our trust in the Lord.
    c. Our trust evident in our life.
