The wickedness of Athaliah -- who was used as a judgment against the apostasy of Judah -- yet God was faithful to His promises. David would never cease to have a man to rule on the throne. This is ultimately fulfilled in Christ -- but this is an important part of redemptive history in that -- by all human appearances -- the royal line of David had been totally obliterated. Yet -- God had ordained that ONE be spared!
