One Lord, Faith, Baptism

In this section, Paul continues his emphasis on unity. Believers already have a precious unity in Christ with each other and they should strive to preserve that unity. What is the substance of the unity they have? One body, of which they are all members. One calling to eternal life and to righteousness. One Lord, the Lord Jesus Christ, to whom they render service and obedience. One faith -- absolute faith in Christ alone, not in the works of the Law. And they have the same body of faith -- the faith once for all delivered to the saints by Christ and His apostles. One baptism. Oops, here is controversy and disunity. There is one biblical baptism -- by immersion for those who have repented of sin and believed the Gospel. Then, there is another "baptism" -- infant baptism -- which is foreign to the New Testament and is not baptism.

One God and Father over all, through all and in all.
