Hebrews 9:1-10

Full Access To God Only Comes Through Jesus Christ!

Main Idea: Access to God temporarily restricted under the Old Covenant!

• Access is restricted by its earthly sanctuary (1-5)
 An outer tent (the Holy Place) (2)
Lampstand
Table and Bread of the Presence
 An inner tent (the Holy of Holies) (3-5)
The Altar of Incense (in between)
The Ark of the Covenant, containing….
Golden urn with manna
Aaron’s staff that budded
Tables of the covenant
Cherubim overshadowing the mercy seat

• Access is restricted by its regulations for worship (6-9)
 Priests regularly service the outer tent (Holy Place) (6)
 High Priests enter the Holy of Holies (7)
Only once per year, must have blood
 Neither section accessible to the people (8)
First section restricts access to second
Symbolizes “present age”

• But this is God’s design: The Old gives way to the New! (9-10)
 Old cultic system unable to perfect the conscience!
 Old cultic system is “external”
 A temporary system until the time of reformation!
 Christ enables our entry by His own blood! (Hb 10:19)

Application

We must not leave Christianity for some kind of works-based system which can do nothing to free our consciences from guilt!
