Jesus Teaches You How to Pray to Your Father
Series Luke
53 ( 51 | 2 )
Jesus’ disciples make a wonderful request, “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1). Our Lord answers with what has become known as The Lord’s Prayer -- which is better called the disciples’ prayer (since Jesus didn’t need to ask for forgiveness). The point of this prayer is not that we must repeat it word for word, but rather it is our model for prayer. Jesus teaches His disciples to address God as “Father” – which would have surprised them since this is not how individuals would speak of God in the Old Testament. Then our Lord further encourages us to pray by explaining that because God is our Father we should expect to receive generous answers.
