Many things we associate with St Patrick's Day are either simple Irish traditions or somewhat fanciful legends. But these traditions and legends obscure who Patrick really was and the amazing mission he accomplished during his life.

We also do not have to allow Roman Catholics to appropriate Patrick for their own. Patrick was a follower of Christ through and through, before any part of the church could even be called "the Roman Catholic Church."
