Why Did God Create Satan?

Wasn't Satan created good? If God knew that Satan would rebel, why did He create Him? What possible purpose does Satan serve since all he does is destructive and not good?

*Clarifying Note: Christian theology teaches that God's decrees of election, reprobation, creation, and the fall occur in eternity past. However, the logical order of God's decrees is debated. Although not discussed in this podcast, we understand that God's decree to save is logically after his decree about the creation and fall. This is not a temporal distinction, but simply logical one.
