God's Good Judgement

It is tempting to feel intimidated and even threatened by the world’s hostility towards God and His people. On the other hand we can be seduced into envying its great power, wealth and security. However it is God who has the final word over the rise and fall of every nation. The nations in their great pride may gloat over Jerusalem’s downfall but God still acts on behalf of His people to bring down the proud and show Himself holy among the nations.

Even where the church has ‘muddied’ God’s reputation He will ‘un-muddy’ it for the sake of His own glory. Christ has been appointed as head over everything to build, purify and revive His church. History is strewn with the wreckage of empires whose goal was world dominion but it is the Kingdom of God that remains unshaken. The reason why the church has a future is that Christ is sovereign over the affairs of this world – for the good His own people and for the hallowing of His Father’s name!
