Ashamed of Christ

The Word of God is ever timely, relevant and up to date.

This text is a commentary upon the comments recently attributed to Jonathan Edwards the Olympic triple jumper and world record holder.

In February 2007 he gave an interview in which he made clear that for a number of years he was having a crisis of faith. He stated that he was no longer convinced of the existence of God. This date marked him stepping down as the presenter of Songs of Praise.

Speaking again this past week about his change of view he said:
I think I was probably quite narrow-minded and fundamental in my views and a bit of a scary person. I believed that what I believed was the truth. Some of those extremes I feel slightly embarrassed about now, but overall no regrets. It was where I was at the time - it's not where I am now.

Jonathan Edwards is to be greatly pitied. He is a living example of the folly of trying to silence your conscience to fit in with a course of action you wish to adopt in life.

This text has something to say about his acknowledged embarrassment.

Consider: Ashamed of Christ - a very foolish choice to make.
