Satan desires above all things to defeat God's work in this world. On his list of primary targets is the work of Grace God has begun in the hearts of His people. This work of grace is the furnace that moves God's people to love and devotion to Christ. It is this furnace that satan wants badly to douse with water and extinguish. Believers, both new and old, need to be encouraged, under this deluge of satan, that this fire is the work of God. He began it, He sustains it, He will complete it. It is always a danger for believers to attempt to do God's work for him rather than trusting in Him to power them through this fierce world. This is a message both of caution and encouragement.
