David: Faith and Patience

77

Everyone want success. But what does it feel like when we get it? If our 'success' is in service to the Lord it may not be what we expect. God's time came for David to become king; but only one tribe accepted him. Joab took matters into his own hands and brought shame instead of glory. Vindication was a long time coming but other issues became more important. So it is with the Lord Jesus and with his people. The church is often tempted to take short cuts in order to get 'conversions'. Believers may give in to legalism instead of seeking the Spirit's help. We must learn to put personal interest to one side and have the mind of Christ. He suffered for us and committed himself to the righteous judge. His final victory is still on the way - every disciple needs to remember that.
