David & the Life of Faith
Pastor Ryan works thru the chapter verse by verse, looking at the text thru 3 camera lenses: historical, Christological & practical.
Ultimately, this text is not about David & Goliath, but Yahweh & Satan, & how the true Messiah, represented by David, advances the kingdom of God by putting his trust in True Strength (the LORD of Hosts), over & against the false Messiah, Saul, who like Goliath puts his trust in 'false strength' (swords, spears, shields, & worldly wisdom).
A very practical sermon today, since God is still advancing His kingdom thru Jesus, the Son-of-God-in-power, as His followers, who have also received an anointing to further His reign against the forces of evil (2 Cor. 1:21), do so by trusting in the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 10:4-6).
The Application was recorded. It is in a nutshell,in Audio clip 1, for "preAudio" listening.
- This prompts us to worship the Author of our faith, whose salvation was an act of submission & trust in God.
- We are prompted to a life of greater faith, trusting not in programs or methods, but God.
- The Goliath impediments to the kingdom are defeated by trust in the gospel.
