The greatest earthquake ever - yet future

No one can look on at the scenes of devastation in the aftermath of the earthquakes firstly in New Zealand and more recently in Japan, with the subsequent tsunami, and not be extremely heavy hearted at the destruction and loss of life.

In all the inquires of experts as to why earthquakes take place sadly there is no reference made to the Word of God. The Scriptures do explain why these seismic events take place. The earth is under the curse of sin. It increasingly groans under that curse waiting to be released one day, Rom 8:22:
For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

It is the groaning of the earth that causes an earthquake.

However, the greatest earthquake that this world will ever witness is yet future. So says this text of Scripture, Rev 16:18:
…there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

Five times the Book of Revelation mentions this earthquake: Chs 6:12; 8:5; 11:13,19; 16:18.
