Blessed are the Pure in Heart
Matthew 5:8

Introduction: 1. The Beatitudes have a proper order to them…
2. Each on is descriptive of a real and necessary spiritual trait found only in the true child of God.

I. The Heart Defined…
A. It's our very core, who we really are…Proverbs 27:19
B. It Requires Attention (our first priority…) Proverbs 4:23

1. It is basic to life itself, Proverbs 23:7; Psalm 64:6
2. God looks upon the heart… Psalm 51:6
   C. The Heart's Natural and True Condition…
   “It is either bad or good…” “It is either heavenly or earthly focused…”
3. Our primary problem is a “heart problem…”
4. It is every man's problem… Ecclesiastes 9:3 cf. Matthew 12:34
   Observation: The world disagrees and sees the symptoms of the problem and does their best to treat them…
5. God will judge the condition of man's heart… Proverbs 17:3; Hebrews 4:12

II. The Children of God “are” Pure in Heart…
A. God is the only one who is essentially pure… Hebrews 7:26
B. Man in the beginning was “originally pure…”
C. Purity of Heart suggests:

1. Cleansing… Romans 2:29
2. Wholeness… James 4:8; Matthew 6:24
   D. How is Purity of Heart Possible?
3. Of ourselves we are sinners (impure) Jeremiah 2:22
4. The gracious work of God… John 3:3 cf. Ezekiel 11:19-20
   Lesson: Acts 16:14
   E. Purity of Heart does not imply Perfection (being without sin…) Romans 7:19-20 & 22
