20-Quicksilver

By the early autumn of 1608, there were three English Separatist churches
in the city of Amsterdam, each driven from their homeland by persecution
to take refuge in the Low Countries because of the religious toleration
there. The Ancient church had been in Amsterdam for more than ten years;
Francis Johnson was its pastor and Henry Ainsworth its teacher. This
church had flourished in Holland, but it was now racked by tragic disputes.
Sadly, worse was to come, the grievous course of which we followed in
‘Boiled Roots’.
