I – Gifts without Love are Futile
1.The gift of tongues
•The tongues of men are languages with a meaning. I Co 14:10 /Acts 2:5-11
•What about the tongues of angels?
2.The Gifts of Prophecy and Knowledge Vs 2
3.The gift of prophecy: is presented in connection with knowing all mysteries; “musterion” in the NT is an unrevealed truth about God’s Redemptive purposes in Christ. Eph 6:19/ I Co 2:7-10, Eph 3:1-7, Col 2:2-3
•Prophecy and word of Knowledge had nothing to do with demonic fortune telling that so many practice today in the name of Christianity.
4.The Gift of Faith
•I Co 12/Mt. 17:20/SPECIAL and EXTRAORDINARY FAITH
•The argument: faith, prophecy and knowledge “without love” makes me “ouvqe,n eivmi” worthless, meaningless, the ultimate negation, I am nothing.
5. The Gift of Giving Vs 3
•This is a hyperbole: Francis of Assisi did this literally.
•The hyperbole … Our body is our ultimate possession
•Without love “it profits nothing”
