A Prophet Without Honor

7

In Mark 6:1-29 Jesus begins to expand his ministry through his disciples. But his rejection by his own hometown warns that not all will receive his messengers, while the beheading of John the Baptist shows that faithful ministry is costly. Following Jesus means empowerment for his mission, but also suffering, maybe even death, because of it.

  1. Jesus rejected: a prophet without
    honor (6:1-6)

  2. The Twelve sent out: the ministry
    expanded (6:7-13)

  3. John beheaded: the cost of faithful
    ministry (6:14-29)
