Resurrection amongst Skeptics
Series Apostles' Speeches in Acts
56
Athens, much like our present Western countries, thought itself great because it was the home of democracy, the birthplace of many great thinkers and a home for the arts. Paul didn’t think it a special prize to be accepted there but was provoked by its idolatry and told them about Jesus and the resurrection. We all face death and the ‘calling to account’ that this represents. Only the God revealed to Israel, and Jesus whom he raised from the dead can speak to our situation. This is the word we need in our hearts and minds as we pray and speak to our neighbours.
