Psalm 26
Series Psalms
40
Introduction:
Psalm 26 is a humble confession of sincerity and uprightness in the presence of God. In this sense, this Psalm answers the call for holiness in both Psalms 15 and 24.
Thesis:
Sincere worship and service within the covenant of grace is a ground for prayer that the Lord would vindicate His people.
Lessons:
- Personal integrity is a necessary trait of God’s people. Sincere worship and service to God does not make us His children, but it is a ground of our plea that He should protect us as His children (v. 1).
- Walking in the counsel of the ungodly cannot exist with godly sincerity and the love of God’s worship (v. 4-8).
- The companionship of the ungodly ought to be burdensome to God’s people (v. 9-10). Though we desire all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth (1 Tim. 2), yet the righteous should choose his friends careful for the way of the wicked leads them astray (Prov. 12:26).
- We must resolve to maintain our integrity, but we must trust in the covenant mercy of the Lord alone for our salvation (v. 11).
