Good News For All People

200

The Church of Philippi was begun on Paul's Second Missionary Journey. Paul got a vision to go to Macedonia in Greece and we see that vision recorded in Acts 16. Luke who wrote the Book of Acts shows us that Paul and his companions initially meet 3 individuals there in Macedonia.

They meet Lydia, then they meet a demon possessed girl and they meet the Philippian gaoler. Lydia was a tender soul, the demon possessed girl was a tormented soul and the Philippian gaoler was a toughened soul.

Now if you and I were starting a Church! Would we naturally look to incorporate those that have been demon possessed and who have been involved in satanic fortune telling?
If we were planting a Church would we naturally look to incorporating a hardened prison officer and his Pagan family?
If we were planting a new Church I think perhaps we would be more than happy to incorporate a God seeking business woman like Lydia rather than those that might be considered untouchables and unimportant in society.
If you look at the ministry of Jesus He reached out to both the rich and the poor. He reached the loved and the unloved.
In Synagogues or in Cells, in fact wherever Paul was he took the opportunity to share the Gospel.
Rom 1:16 KJV For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

So Paul and his missionary companions founded the Church at Philippi amongst a diverse group of people.
When Paul writes the letter to the Philippians he is a prisoner in the City of Rome and its about 10 years since he first started the Church there.
