In fulfilling the Great Commission, the disciples of Christ gathered new followers into churches, as is evident from the stated and demonstrated, as well as implied and assumed, practice of the New Testament. Taking Corinth as a prime example, we trace the patter of hearing, believing and being baptised as the basis of the formation of a church of Jesus Christ, a body of believers who then enjoy ongoing instruction in the path of righteousness. Meaningful membership, a formal and functional connection to other believers in a local church, begins with understanding how churches are formed and who belongs in them.
