Psalm 39
To the chief Musician, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.
I. Purposing vigilance
The circumstances of life demand watchfulness (1 Samuel 26.8).
A. David's silence (verses 1-2)(James 3.2-3)(John 8.6).
B. David's speech (verse 3-5)(Ecclesiastes 3.1,7b)(Nehemiah 2.4) (James 4.14)(Psalm 90.10).
II. Pursuing true glory (verses 6-11)
A. Pursuing true glory involves seeing beyond man's vanities. (Ecclesiastes 1.2-4)(Mark 8.34b-37).
B. Pursuing true glory involves placing our hope in the Lord and seeking deliverance from him. (verses 7-11)(Psalm 3.2) (Psalm 4.2). (Hebrews 12.6).
III. Praying to be heard (verses 12-13)
A. David pleads his pilgrim status. He is conscious that he is just passing through this world (Heb 11.24-26).
B. David pleads his weak mortality. (verse 13)
Conclusion
Let us be challenged by this godly example and follow it.
