James: Discrimination Violates Kingdom Law

  1. Over-glorifying the wealthy (vv1-4)
    a. God cannot be manipulated by wealth, beauty, personality or education. (Deut 10:17; Acts 10:34; 1Peter 1:17; Col 3:25)
    b. Faith should reflect God's character or we may find ourselves opossing the very God we say we serve.

  2. God will not share his glory with another (vv. 5-7)
    a. We naturally prefer the attractive over the unlovely.
    b. Love based on favoritism is really selfishness and oht Christian compassion.
    c. We often ignore character and judge people on outward appearences, both rich and poor.
    d. We often don't like that God calls so many 'unattractive' people. We prefer our tastes over His and our comforts over His glory.

  3. Favoritism violates kingdom law (vv 8-13)
    a. Is James advocating living under the Old Covenent Laws?
    b. Discontinuity and continuity between the Old and New Covinants.
