Only the believer can have true, Biblical, joy as well as all other fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit equals Christ-likeness. (Hebrews 12:2) How could Jesus endure the cross and still have joy? Because it brought glory to God. True joy is the joy of Christ that endures through the trials.
