An Unfurnished Home

The series on homes the Lord Jesus refers to considers the instance of the man who is swept clean of a demon but then has seven more wicked spirits come back and make their home in him. The Lord has had to answer the charge that He casts out demons by Beelzebub and warns those who so accuse Him, that they are in peril. The house is here a picture of the inner life of a person. To lose a demon is a blessing indeed but this needs to be followed by God dwelling in the person through the Holy Spirit.

The place of demons in the New Testament is considered. Symptoms of possession are reviewed. It is asserted that the Christians cannot be possessed by a demon. Demons know those who are the Lord's and have no point of access. Demons are cast out when a person is converted. If an unconverted person has a demon cast out but without salvation accompanying, they are in danger. They are defenceless against other bondages and false religion which may be brought to them by wicked spirits. There is a need to pray for the unconverted as they are vulnerable to Satan's deceptions.
