Young girls in American culture are taught early on that what matters is external beauty and outward adornment. How to fix the hair. Shopping for the latest cool outfit. Dressing seductively and showing off the flesh. Putting on makeup. Wearing jewelry. Getting tan. Dieting. Exercising. This is what girls are focused on, because this is what the world idolizes. But the Christian girl and woman is to be focused in an entirely different direction. They are to adorn themselves with that which God finds attractive -- namely, a gentle and quiet spirit. Christian women should seek that beauty that lasts for eternity, not the beauty that fades and vanishes away. In the process, they should teach young girls that this is what truly matters.
