Faith a Necessity, a Duty But God-Given

1. Christ must be preached.

• as the Saviour of sinners, the sin-bearer, and the sole object of faith.
• God to be sought as the one who alone can change hearts and beget faith in men.

2. Christ should be believed upon by every hearer.
   Isaiah laments a sinful unbelief - all should embrace and love the gospel of saving grace and think much of this great mercy to undeserving sinners.

3. Christ displayed the power of God.
   'The arm of the Lord' - the strength and power of God's redemption in Christ.

4. Christ despised except for the power of God in the soul.
   The arm of the Lord reveals both God's power in the work of redemption and in applying it to sinners - only God's power and sovereign election can remedy the universal blindness of sinners - The Lord's righteous prerogative.
