The Great Awakening, Part 1
Series The Protestant Reformation
184
In the four decades following the era of the great Protestant confessions (1690-1730) the churches in Great Britain and in the thirteen North American colonies did not experience revival, but rather great decline. The old paths which the previous generation had recovered at such great cost to themselves were almost completely lost again. But God was merciful in raising up godly men of valor once again who with great boldness and compassion preached the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit. In this first of two lectures we begin to examine the lives of these men by a consideration of the characteristics of their preaching.
