Delivered! From Our Sins & This Age

209

The book of Galatians has been called "the Christian's declaration of independence." Paul writes the letter because false teachers were convincing Christians that salvation is not by grace, but through obedience to the law.

It is perhaps not evident at first blush that Galatians is as relevant for us in the West today as when Paul wrote it. After all, Western Christians have far greater problems with immorality than with legalism it seems. However, Paul is at once expressing the power of Christ to deliver us from this evil age (immorality) and from works-based religious systems (legalism).

They are all, in the end, expressions of self-salvation Of not relying by faith on Jesus' cross to deliver us from every evil: boredom and indifference to Christ, as well as personal pride and self-righteousness.
