Scripture: 1 Peter 5:5-11

Thesis: What does it mean to be a good church member?

1. The idea of servant hood is the concept that sums up verses 5-7

2. We are to esteem one another more than ourselves and to submit to one another

3. Each part of the body is to work together with an attitude of mutual submission

4. We are to have an attitude of humility

5. Submission which is part of humility, is a core, Christ like and Biblical attitude for church members

6. Life is about God. verses 10-11

7. How practically do we do this in church? 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 "diligently labor... esteem them" Hebrews 13:17

8. Verses 6-7 Church members are to be subject to our Savior

9. Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you

10. What can't you cast on Him?

11. Verses 8-9 We are to live as a soldier.

12. Let your thoughts and actions be controlled by the scripture and not your feelings or emotions

13. As a result we remain on alert. Why? Because Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion.

14. But resist him, firm in your faith, do not lose heart we are being renewed day by day.

15. 2 Timothy 2:10 We resist the enemy by standing on God's word in all situations anchored in the truths of scripture.
