Rejected by men but Chosen of God is not only a phrase that applies to Jesus Christ, it also applies to the people Christ died to save and whom He is daily adding to the church.

God's electing grace is sometimes seen as bad news by those who misunderstand or reject it, but properly understood election is good news, which is why Peter makes it such a central part of his letter to churches about to enter into persecution.
