The Works of the Flesh and the Fruit of the Spirit, Part 2

218

The ‘Works of the Flesh’ are works that sinners produce that are contrary to the Fruit of the Spirit. In Galatians 5:15-26, Paul describes our sanctification (or being made like Christ) as a war between the flesh and the Spirit and he explains how they are two different ways of walking before God. We must be clearly mindful of the works of the flesh in our lives, being on our guard against the flesh, and resisting it, realizing that sinners saved by grace still contend with the fleshful desires, yearnings, and longings, even though flesh and sin no longer have dominion (Rom. 7:14-25), and to seek by God’s grace to walk in the Spirit because we have truly been crucified with Christ and have died to the power and dominion of sin (Gal. 5:24; Rom. 6:1-14).
