The Wrath of God Revealed

The apostle Paul's task in this present passage is to show that all humanity has absolutely no righteousness of its own by which it can stand before God. It is universally under the power of sin and justifiably under the present action of His wrath because of its active suppression of the truth about God which is clearly understood from what He has made. Exchanging the truth of God for a lie and worshiping and serving the creature rather than the Creator is not a matter of small consequences. We will see that false worship leads to false living.
Human depravity and inhumanity are not proof that there is no God who cares, but are actually strong witness to the righteous anger of a faithful Creator who cannot remain indifferent to the evil of this world but actively gives us over to the shame and impurity of our darkened and foolish hearts.
Only when the tragic hopelessness of a world under judgment is fully unmasked can the gospel be seen and believed as the glorious, liberating, justifying action of the grace of God that it is.
