Lessons from a Golden Sceptre
Series Communion Meditations
42
Although the book of Esther makes for captivating reading and is filled with a great deal of irony, we must never forget that the book must be understood in the broader context of redemption. Had Haman succeeded with his plot to exterminate the Jews it would also have meant the end of God's plan of redemption. In this study we focus on Esther's approach to King Ahasuerus and the golden sceptre that was held out to her. The lessons from this narrative include the following points: 1. Access to the King is not Automatic 2. Mercy is a Matter of Sovereign Prerogative 3. Mercy Carries with it Great Blessings.
