From Babylon to Zion
Series Series in Jeremiah (2004-2007)
62
Aim: To go to our great Savior, from the devastation of sin.
Doctrine: All of God's children must traverse the road from Babylon to Zion. Sin makes this journey inevitable; grace makes this journey valuable.
Exegesis: The dynamics of the trek from Babylon to Zion: it is initiated in the Lord's way and time (vv. 1-5); it corrects years of futility (vv. 6-7); it is embarked upon by faith (vv. 8-10).
Further application: The necessary provision for the trip: repentance—fueled by a sincere faith, and hope—inspired by a sincere faith.
Key verse: v. 5 ''They shall ask the way to Zion, with their faces toward it, saying, 'Come and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that will not be forgotten.'''
